Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC) pays tribute to the greatest boxer of all times – Muhammad Ali.
As the world mourns the loss of Muhammad Ali, one of the greatest boxing and sports personalities of our time, the Muslim community of Edmonton joins the larger international community in remembering the end of an era and expressing its deep condolences with his family and close friends.
Muhammad Ali captured the imagination and emotions of so many across the globe, not only for his boxing and athletic prowess but also with his unparalleled wit and his presence of mind. Yet, above all, his life history tells us another story of someone who was deeply compassionate, caring and generous towards the disadvantaged anywhere in the world. “These human qualities should serve as a model for us and our future generations in devotion and service towards our fellow human beings” said Masood Peracha, Chair of Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities.
May his soul rest in peace and may his deeply human qualities shine as a beacon for us and our generations to come. Amin.
The Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities is an umbrella organization representing eleven different Muslim entities within Edmonton. Created in 2002, its mission is to speak and act on behalf of Edmonton Muslims with fellow Canadians in a manner that protects, promotes, and enhances the understanding of Islam and Muslims in matters of public policy, education, peace and safety.
