The Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC) categorically condemns the recent attack on a night club in Orlando, Florida, which has claimed the lives of 50 people and left another 53 wounded.

11 Jan - Edmonton Muslims Commemorate Prophet's Birthday
To mark the occasion of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, which was on 12th day of Rabi-al-Awal 1436 AH (peace be upon him), the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities and the Aga Khan Council for Edmonton have organized a special commemoration on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Royal Alberta Museum.

8 Jun - Edmonton Muslims Condemn Attack on Parliament Hill
It is with shock and deep concern that Edmonton Muslims have learnt about the attack on Parliament Hill yesterday in which a member of the Canadian Armed Forces lost his life, only two days after a Canadian soldier lost his life in a violent attack in Quebec.


 

8 Jun - ECMC Urges Efforts to Combat Radicalization
In response to the recent media news regarding the death of a Calgary man apparently in a suicide attack in Iraq, ECMC calls on its member organizations to remain vigilant against any such attempts at radicalization in our city.


 

6 Feb - Edmonton Muslims Commemorate Prophet's Birthday
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was born on 12th day of Rabi-al- Awal,  the third month of the Islamic calendar in the year 570 CE. To mark this occasion Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC) and His Highness Prince Aga Khan Shia Imami Ismaili Council for Edmonton will hold a special commemoration on Saturday February 8th at the Royal Alberta Museum located at 12845-102nd Avenue. The event will include a talk by Imam Dr. Usama Al Atar.

12 Oct - Edmonton Muslims Celebrate Eid-al-Adha
Edmonton Muslims will be celebrating Eid-ul-Adha on October 15, 2013. It is one of two festivals and also the oldest of religious festivals celebrated by all Muslims. Eid al Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhull-Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic Calendar and marks the end of the annual pilgrimage (Hajj) to Mecca.

Edmonton Muslims commence the Holy month of Ramadan by expressing their prayers for all those who have been devastated by floods, by fires, by wars and by unrest. Ramadan is also not only a month of fasting but also a time for reflection, a time to turn one’s attention from the material (exoteric) world to the inner (esoteric) spiritual realm.

30 Nov - Premier Honours ECMC Chairperson Masood Peracha with Diamond Jubilee Medal
The Honourable Donald S. Ethell, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta, presided over the ceremony and reception, along with Premier Alison Redford to celebrate those who have dedicated themselves to service to their fellow citizens, their communities and their country. All the recipients, including Masood Peracha, were chosen by Premier Redford.
