Edmonton Muslims Feed The Needy To Celebrate End Of Ramadan

November 3, 2006

To mark the end of the Islamic month of Ramadan, the Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities (ECMC) and Islamic Family Social Services Association (IFSSA) will jointly be hosting the Annual Eid Dinner at the Boyle Street Community Service Co-op on Sunday November 5, 2006 starting at 2:30 pm.  Boyle Street Community Service Co-op is located at 10116 – 105 Avenue.

“This annual event reflects the basic Islamic principle of looking after the less fortunate in our society.  The obligatory fasting during the Islamic month of Ramadan reminds Muslims about the pangs of hunger that many among our society have to endure on a daily basis” said Larry Shaben, Chairman of ECMC

Dr. Abdul Aziz Khan, the President of IFSSA said, “The cost of approximately 1000 meals is entirely funded by Muslims.  Muslim youths volunteer their time in preparing the meals and serving our guests.  You see in the eyes of those we serve how much this event means to them”.

The Edmonton Council of Muslim Communities ( is an umbrella organization representing the majority of the 35,000 Edmonton Muslims.  Islamic Family  Social Services Association is a registered charity providing social assistance to Muslims and non-Muslims in Edmonton.
